Life in the Soap Lane — inventing

New Product Developments: On the horizon of the Outlaw landscape

One of the fun parts of our jobs is inventing. But due to the nature of our business (outlined at the bottom of this post), we can't do a whole lot of it. Spring, though, is time for us to order a whole messa new supplies and start inventing with great fervor, since whatever we invent in the Spring, we're stuck with for the rest of the year. And if we don't invent something in the Spring, we don't get to start inventing it at any other time, since it's too close to Christmas (yes, really). Here are some exciting products that we're working on this Spring! Look for these in April and May!

"When are you having a sale?" The answer's pretty simple

We probably will never have a sale on the above products. Here's why: we have to stay in business. It comes down to pricing. Side note: I wrote an article about product pricing for Pyragraph and you might be interested in it if you're interested in our business. Our production is 100% handmade...

How handmade soap is made

f you're curious about our ingredients and process, please see our page about that very topic. Back when we were just starting out, I filmed this video of how I make Fire in the Hole Campfire Soap:  It's kind of funny to watch that video now, because I'm making only one batch at a time (that's 35 bars), where as now we routinely make five batches at a time. "I was not a soap person before Outlaw Soaps." - Eric, customer

The truth is, neither were we. When I reflect back on how different our lives were just three years ago, it hardly seems possible that we have changed almost everything about our lives, our careers, and our homes. We even gained a family member (Roxy Vincent, VP of Animal Testing). How did this all happen? What was the catalyst for this transformation?

Big changes are happening around Outlaw Soaps (like the fact that you're reading this on a new site), and one of those big changes is that we're retiring some soaps and starting to make some other soaps. Soon, the following soaps will just be a fuzzy memory: Bunkhouse Stampede, we barely knew...

Our new box: revealed!

Since pretty much the beginning of our business, we have been using biofilm and a recycled brown paper sticker to wrap our soaps. The whole package biodegrades and the wrap keeps the soaps from being damaged in stores by over-handling. But after much deliberation, planning, and design work, we have...
