The Badlands: The story behind our newest smoky scent

It started with the original idea behind the company... An idea that was so simple, but as elusive as an attempt to clutch at a wisp of smoke: The smell of campfire ... but not just the smell of campfire... more like the impression of campfire. And we got it....

Fire in the Hole explosively awesome campfire soap: Inspired by friends, whiskey, explosions, and good times

The first attempt at making Fire in the Hole soap came on a weekend in May. I know this very specifically, because I wasn't camping that weekend, and it was our annual May Trip. We had planned on going camping with friends -- one of those crazy weekends of drinking and shooting and lighting things on fire -- but it was our first year of Outlaw Soaps, and small business ownership being what it is, we couldn't see to drag ourselves away for the day-long drive to meet our friends in an obscure corner of the Mojave.

The one good reason for being unpredictable

Oh, the irony... we get this name for ourselves being outlaws! On the run! Never predictable! No dull moments! But the reality is that a lot of what we do and make has to  be predictable for our business. But...

From the Labs: A MAGIC ELIXIR

I got to thinking... why beard oil? Certainly men aren't the only people with brittle, hard to manage hair on their heads. You may or may not have noticed, but I have blue hair. I know what you're thinking: it looks so natural! But guess what! It is totally not natural.

"Fire in the Hole" Story #2: Bees

My friends and I had gone on a camping trip to a dry lakebed just north of Ludlow, California. We had all arrived after sundown, with most of us arriving throughout the night. We had come here many times before, and it was a gloriously undisturbed place where we were free to do whatever stupid stuff we wanted to. As usual, we brought firewood for a massive fire and many of us were enthusiastically throwing propane canisters and gas cans (yes, really) on the fire. More fire is better, right? We were drinking beer, and maybe some scotch, as is our way. There was definitely a drunk front moving through the camp that night, with periodic showers of...

"Fire in the Hole" Story #1: Hell or High Water

¬† This is the first in a series of stories about the inspirations behind our soaps. Many camping stories have contributed to the scent profile of Fire in the Hole, our campfire soap, and this is one. We hope you enjoy these as much as you enjoy the soap inspired by them. ‚ÄúNO ONE WANTS TO GO CAMPING ANYMORE. YOU ARE ALL PUSSIES.‚ÄĚ
