On this holiest of gratitude days, we want you to know, from the heart, how much we appreciate you as our friends, customers, and family. It’s you and your undying love of our little band of Outlaws that keeps this whole shebang bangin’. This has been a year of many...
The sugar is hitting the fan!
(ok, that was a cheap Unicorn Poop joke)
I imagined that I had sent all the stock we needed to send to Amazon for the entire holidays in early November. A couple weeks into November, it was clear that we would have to send more, so I sent another hundred or so bars.
In the last month (Nov 3 - Dec 3), we have sold 309 bars of Unicorn Poop through Amazon.

The first bit of information that hit my eyeballs this morning was the fact that my dear friend, Spoono, had died.
He had apparently died in his sleep, of natural causes, out at the once-a-year sparkling city of Black Rock, in northern Nevada.
I worked with Spoono for several years out...
As I'm sure you've read in this blog, being an entrepreneur is hard.
I'm not whining. It just is really hard.
But, as I'm sure you've picked up by now, it's also one of the most rewarding and magical experiences of my life.
This will be the first real vacation we've taken since we started the business and I'm kind of anxious... I mean, what if orders come in when we're gone? What if we get a big PO and can't make soaps in time because we're out of our workshop? What if... nothing happens, no one orders anything, we get no more wholesale inquiries, and we have to close the business ALL BECAUSE WE TOOK A VACATION?

Cathy Farrar: Given that you and Russ "do everything," how do you sustain enthusiasm?
Lots of days, I wake up and don't want to do it. I don't want to open my email and deal with anything. Even emails our favorite customers. I don't want to write a blog entry or product description or customer response with forced enthusiasm.
Money is always tight, and given how constantly and persistently we work at this business, that alone is enough to make me feel like giving up and taking a full time job. Yeah, to the extent that I have had real conversations with people about positions in their company.
“It’s kind of like if you mixed Fight Club with Breaking Bad, and then turned that dark storyline into Pushing Daisies,” is what I tell them.
See, at the end of March 2013, I quit my job at The Oprah Winfrey Network to start my own soap company with my husband. Before that, I worked at ABC, and before that, I worked at ABC Family... I’ve been an Entertainment Product Manager for about six years and a web Product Manager of various other types of websites for about eight years before that.
Yesterday was one hell of a buckin' bronc of a soap making ride! Thank heavens the CEO/Wife works within screaming distance of the COO/Husband in the soap shop.
I was in the process of making five batches (190 bars) of everyone's all time favorite, Hair of the Dog Whiskey Soap, when things started getting nasty...
This is the first in a series of stories about the inspirations behind our soaps. Many camping stories have contributed to the scent profile of Fire in the Hole, our campfire soap, and this is one. We hope you enjoy these as much as you enjoy the soap inspired by them.

Last weekend was the last Central Soapers Workshop, since the person who has run it for the past several years is going off to pursue Modern Soapmaking full time. I was invited to speak at the conference this year, which truly put me (goofball to the max) in the company...
Over the past two months, we've been moving from our place in Oakland to a new place in Antioch, about 45 minutes away. I've talked about the move itself, but there's something truly interesting about our new, weird, suburban life. Our subdivision was built in the early 90s. The houses,...
